A 35-year-old man was rushed to hospital after he was shot in Scarborough on Monday afternoon.
Paramedics found the man on Wishford Drive, near Morningside and McLevin avenues, around 3:30 p.m.
The victim’s mother said she heard her son’s screams from inside the house.
“I was inside when I heard him calling me, ‘Mom, Mom, I get shot, I get shot, call 911,'” Violet, who declined to give her surname, told CityNews.
“So I grabbed the phone and grabbed a towel and put pressure with one hand and used the other to call 911.”
Violet said she was able to see the bullet in his shoulder. Her son told her a man tried to rob him, but when he refused to hand over his bag, the man shot him.
Her son didn’t know his attacker, she said.
“My son is anti-social. He has a mental problem. He doesn’t talk to anybody…I think it was random. He wouldn’t be a target,” Violet said.
Annie, who lives on Wishford and didn’t want her last name used, said she thought the sound of gunshots was fireworks at first.
“I was inside when I heard a shot, but I thought it was fireworks,” she said.
“So when I saw the police and I saw the ambulance, I knew something was wrong on my street.”
The suspect is described as black, 21-years-old, about five-foot-eight-inches tall, between 150 to 175 pounds, with cornrows. He was wearing a green hat with red stripe, Adidas T-shirt (colour unknown) and dark baggy jeans.
